A paver patio is a structure. The pavers are the surface you see, and the compacted base under them is what decides whether it is still level in ten years.
We build the base to depth, compact it in layers and lock the perimeter with edge restraint. Most of the repair work we are called to fix skipped one of those steps.
Patios and pool decks
Around a pool, the deck has to drain away from the water and stay comfortable underfoot in July. Paver color and finish both matter for that.
We set the fall so water runs to the perimeter and not back into the pool, and we use a surface that is not slippery when wet.
Driveways and walkways
A driveway takes vehicle load, so it needs a deeper base than a walkway. We excavate to depth and compact in layers rather than laying one deep lift.
Walkways are set to a comfortable width and a consistent grade, with steps and landings where the fall requires them.
Retaining walls and raised beds
Retaining walls hold wet soil, which is heavy. Drainage stone and a drain line behind the wall let that water out.
Raised beds and seat walls use the same construction and tie the planting into the hardscape.
Sealing and maintenance
Sealing is optional. It deepens the color and makes cleaning easier, and it needs redoing every few years.
